When I first went to see Trancers, I thought it was going to be about exploding brains. Boy, was I wrong. It turned out to be a time traveling film with a kick-ass lawman hunting down bio baddies. There was always something about the 80's that attracted time travelers. Could it be because of the wild fashions back then so that when someone came back from the future, they wouldn't look out of place? Trancers almost answers that question.

Whenever we screen a movie with major stars some one comes along and says: "I thought you guys only show bad movies?" My usual response is "We show movies of peculiar interest."

Grace Quigley falls into that category. It features Katherine Hepburn in one of her final roles. It's a story about a proud woman who doesn't want to die old and feeble. She wants to die with both guns blasting away, so she blackmails a hit-man into snuffing her out. She's very thoughtful because she adds her friends to the list of death. Like the film 'Harold and Maude',
it handles the subject of aging and dying with comedy and warmth.

Jan 11 Night of the Bloody Apes (1969) dir. Rene Cordona Jr.
This is basically the directors remake of his earlier film 'Doctor of Doom' so he ups this one up with more female flesh and stock footage of an actual open heart surgery. The plot is about a babelicious female wrestler who is bummed out about her career in wrestling. A mad doctor wants to create a super wrestler so he attempts an ape to human heart transplant. Like with any mad doctor situations something goes wrong and the next thing you know..there's an ape-like creature gouging out eyeballs in the hood.

Katherine Hepburn and Nick Nolte star in this dark comedy about euthanasia.."Say What!" Euthanasia! OMG!...OH it's a comedy. Carry on."
Katherine realizes that she doesn't want to end up old and fuzzled so she blackmails Nick Nolte into killing not just her, but her friends. Isn't that sweet. Now they can go out in blaze and glory.

I remember seeing this at the Town Theater which is now the Woman's Museum. Two wino's were so intrigued by it that they didn't want go to the men's room. Anyways, what intrigued them was this dark film of misogynist depravity. A poor man's Grand Guignol played out by 2 men who kidnap woman and turn them into savages. It's a comedy.

I love seeing old films that center around D.C. I also love finding films that have been forgotten. Top of the Heap is one of a kind film. It's not Blaxploitation so it hardly ever made it on the list of Black Films. The plot is simple. A cop is stressed out with his duties as a cop. He finds doom and misery on a daily basis so he creates his own world. A world where he could be and do anything. An astronaut for one. The astronaut sequences were filmed on the Mall and on the very spot of the now Air and Space Museum. Paula Kelly also stars and she is excellent. Of course the film will have some Washingtonians saying, " Hey, there are no palm trees or huge drainage ditches in D.C.!"

Movies were always expensive when you had a tight budget. That's where the Drive-ins came in. You could load up the car with family and friends for one low price. The snacks were cheap. There was usually a park or playground in front for the early birds. The parents would bring the kids in their PJ's so's that when they returned home, the kids would already be dressed for bed. I've always had fond memories of being at the Drive-in. It was one of the few things that my family and I could do together. During nude scenes my father would either cover my eyes or ask my sisters if I was asleep or not. I'd hear, "Is the boy asleep?" That was my cue to fake sleep with one eye open to enjoy a huge screen of nekkid female flesh. The last films I saw with my parents at the Drive-in were a John Wayne movie, 'Big Jake' and my favorite science fiction movie of all time, 'The Green Slime'. It was a night to remember.

Toto the Dog was crucial to the plot of The Wizard of Oz, but in the Turkish Wizard of Oz, he was just there. The feline in this movie is called Sampson and it plays an important part in Cat in the Cage, but unfortunately no one told the cat. In scenes where it is called for it to attack, the cute lil fuzzy wuzzy just purrs, so they slap on an audio tape of a crazed kitty, and toss the cat. Cat in the Cage is a cliched murder mystery. A son who has just been released from a mental institution believes that his new younger sexier stepmother (Sybil Danning) had something to do with his mothers death. The cat thinks so too.

Some say that this film is a rip-off of Mad Max. Sorry, there were dozens of futuristic fuel mercenary films in the past. This isn't one of them. I feel that these films show a slightly altered look at our future if we don't conserve our natural resources. Who am I kidding? They'll always be alternative energy sources. A-hem, I've strayed from the path. In 'Warlords of the Twenty-First Century aka Battletruck' we catch a glimpse of what may be. Crazy people fighting and searching for fuel. One maniac has the advantage over most of them. He drives a Battletruck and he uses it to smash and grab as much fuel that he can haul. Your measly little picket fence is no match for the Battletruck. Luckily, these folks have a hero in their neighborhood and he looks like one of the Bee-Gee's. He's got a nice pad. Keeps to himself, until they drag him in. Then things get tough. Don't mess with Andy Gibb.

Outer Space Jelly Monster

Herve Villechaize who played the pint-sized side-kick in the television series Fantasy Island. Mary Woronoz , our lady of B-Movie goodness and Troy Donahue, who figured out that being in just about any B-movie is good.Tonight we have a great door-prize. It's a brand spanking new DVD of The Wolfman and it's the directors cut too. It's going to be a fun night, so come on down to Warehouse and join us.

The Lion Man
Something has to be said about our superheroes. There were a few that were born Godlike, and there were some who got a divine dose of radiation. Then there is The Lion Man. Born of royalty, but raised by lions. He has no true super powers, but he makes up for that with his homemade lion claw gloves. This Turkish film follows the story of a baby thrust out of his royal home and into the woods. Some very nice lions teach him survival skills. He fights and claws his way back. Mauling bad guys left and right with what looks like a hand-warmer with plastic metal claws. Turn your logic off and watch some great scenes. Yes, it's another low budget Turkish spectacular.

They were once Templar's who were doing some pretty nasty sick things. The townsfolk caught wind of it, captured them, and blinded them. Now they are back for BLOOD and REVENGE. With these stiffs being blind and all, you've got to be pretty stupid to get caught by them or you're in a horror movie. Shut-up and run is the way to survive. In the first movie, the dead kind of get away and it was open ended. Now we see that they are after some towns people who just won't keep quiet. Some folks never listen.

Way before our stem-cell research got underway. Mad scientists have been doing their thang. You know, working long hard hours, with no rewards. The crazy smart ones would say, "Hey! Why not put my mad doctor skilz to work. The babes at the bar ignore me. Some even mock me. I don't need any of them. I can create my own gal in a tube!" It never worked out. Sure the sex was good but after awhile the babe would do something odd. May be even kill a few people and that's not too cool. In Embryo, Rock Hudson plays a scientist who tries his hand at it. First with a litter of puppies and then with a female embryo. What could possibly go wrong!? What has science done!?

The Death Bed is the kind of movie that you can't describe. It's one part, Exploitation, one part Sexploitation, and one part absolute Fantasy-Horror. It's about a bed that comes to life after the tears of a demon saturate it. It looks like a mash-up of several themes that all tie up to the monster bed. A ghost victim is cursed and is our narrator for this film venture. People come and go, but end up in the belly of the bed. A one of a kind film that has to be seen to be believed.

Ahhh! It's the BIG BAD RETURN OF THE WPFS after some brief interruptions. I saw tonight's film under this title when I was a teen, 'Don't Open the Window' which was the more schlockier title than, 'Let Sleeping Corpses Lie'. This is not your everyday fast paced zombie flick. It's more realistic. It takes place in a small village where everybody is at peace. Even the local hippies who get blamed for some bizarre happenings. The dead are returning to life and they don't care about 4:20 or getting stoned. They want human flesh. It has something to do with some folks tampering with Mother Nature and you know what that means in a horror film. A bum trip.

All they create is death, destruction, and monsters. What does this have to do with The Green Slime, you may ask? The answer is everything. You see, I'm not a scientist, but I've played one at home with my Skill craft Chemistry set. In the film, The Green Slime you will see the same mistakes scientists make and it's all in outer space.
First there's this asteroid headed straight for Earth and the next thing you know we've got The Green Slime.

Dynamic Black Heat

Ah! The good old days. So bad and so tough, but it was entertaining.
Back in the day if anyone mentioned Blaxploitation , they'd be looked at funny. You know why? The word didn't exist. It was just pure exploitation and black cinema. Can U dig it, man! Black Heat wasn't the original title for this film. That don't matter anyways. What matters is that
Black Heat is an action film about a kick-ass detective named Kicks Carter. Think Richard Roundtree as Shaft, but without the budget. He's after the bad guys and he's got a mystery to solve. Solid!

soon be* finis*,* kaput*, closed forever.
What happened? Well, the story of packaged media (movies, but also music and

Tonight the WPFS presents 'For Your Height Only'. A film from the Philippines that stars a pint-sized stick of dynamite. I really don't know if this is a spoof of the James Bond film ' For Your Eyes Only' because it is just too freaky. I do know the main character is some kind of spy guy who knows kung-fu and loves the ladies so that puts him up there with 007. Its a real low budget project that makes you laugh and laugh and laugh. Throw your logic out the door and glue your jaw tight cause you're in for a real bumpy ride with this gem.

I got my phone turned back on but our WPFS hotline is Kaput. We had hoped for a jolly good swell 20th anniversary show, but with me being called The Scariest Man on the Hill , everything has changed. I can not set foot in the Library of Congress because for the second time in 10 years, another LC employee has told the LC authorities that I am evil. A female co-worker accused me 10 years ago of going postal. She also said that she was a gospel star in Japan and performs surgery on lions at the zoo. This other woman has accused me of sneaking up on her when she was in a No Escape position. She refers to black people as n*ggers. She says:
"Well that's what they call each other." This woman is now in charge of my old staff. Do ya get the picture now. I'm outta money. I've been placed on indefinite suspension without pay since August 18 2009. I get no paycheck and the bills are piling up......but like a real trouper...the show must go on. The show tonight is called: " It Came from Somewhere Else". It's a indie underground sci-fi comedy. Next week we celebrate the films of William Castle.

Plus I'm having more trouble on the job and am fighting a 2 week suspension without pay. Ive been accused of more wrong doings. Kind of like 10 years ago when some coworkers decided to frame me for a crime that was never committed. Yes, the 1998 Going Postal fiasco. Treasure of the Amazon is what some people call an Indiana Jones rip-off. WRONG! The Indiana Jones films were rip-offs of earlier serial adventures. I'm not here trying to defend either one. I'm just saying that this film has more of a crazed reality to it. Greedy Honchoes looking for gold on sacred ground. Bad men trying to hustle the natives. Topless women on horses. Bad men threatening topless woman on a horse. Well anyways, these bad boys go floating down the river and no one trusts the other.
Hungry Hungry Hippos and other jungle creatures glaring at them from the jungle. Angry Angry natives staring at them from the jungle. All this comes together with a lot of backstabbing. Unlike the kind that goes on at your job.
